  3.     DIED. Christine Jorgensen, 62, early recipient of a sex-change
  4. operation; of cancer; in San Clemente, Calif. Born George Jorgensen
  5. in New York City in 1926, he became tormented by the feeling that
  6. he was a woman trapped in the body of a man. In 1952 the ex-G.I.
  7. went to Denmark for a series of operations that American physicians
  8. denounced as "mutilative surgery." With time, however, Jorgensen's
  9. international notoriety brought handsome sums on the lecture and
  10. nightclub circuits.
